by The Independent Programme 24 October – 28 October 2011, 10am-5pm Price: £200 (includes materials)
This five day course is designed to give students who are considering applying to art school an intense taste of the art school 'experience', introducing contemporary fine art practice through the development of practical work, ideas generation and contextual research.
The course is suitable for lower and upper sixth form students (Years 11 and 12).
Throughout this period of study students will extend their understanding of current fine art practice and will be introduced to a range of contemporary artists. The body of work produced during this period of study will provide students with a valuable addition to their portfolio for art school application. During the five day course staff will suggest individual programmes of work which students may subsequently develop in order to further support their applications.
The programme will focus on an investigation of drawing in its broadest sense exploring its relationship to image making, sculpture, film and performance. A series of illustrated lectures on contemporary art and visits to museums and galleries will be integral to the course.
The programme is followed by a series of six Saturday schools that support student's applications to art school and preparation for interview.
The Saturday Programme is priced at £240 for the six days and will take place between 10.00am and 5.00pm on the following Saturdays: 12th November, 26th November, 10th December, 7th January, 21st January, 4th February.
The Independent Programme is a new organisation based in Leeds. It aims to provide affordable, high quality art education for a broad range of students at a particularly challenging point in British educational history.
