Ant Macari’s series of black and white photographs document the now over-painted drawings that he created in situ at PSL over the six week ‘lab’ period of Morphic Resonance. Forming a remnant of his process, the images foreground the time bound and temporary nature of his drawing methods.
The project provided a new set of constraints for Macari who usually plans his wall drawings in advance and completes them prior to an exhibition’s launch, focusing on the viewer’s experience, rather than highlighting the artistic process. For Morphic Resonance he spent several days filling an entire wall with multi-stable images, familiar from optical illusions. Alongside this he produced and then painted over a number of smaller drawings, viewable whilst in progress but now remaining only as photographs.
