Please Note:
Whilst our new building is being re-developed, before opening in Summer 2013, our capacity to work with volunteers has decreased. We are still happy to receive applications to keep on file and contact from time to time when opportunities arise
PSL benefits from in-kind support from several sources, but the work done by our volunteer team represents one of our most important partnerships. Without the generous support of volunteers, our work could not happen on the scale and with the level of ambition that it does.
We hope that volunteering is mutually beneficial, providing a way for volunteers to gain new skills and experience in a professional environment, network with artists and other arts professionals, meet new people – and hopefully have a bit of fun too.
There are 3 ways to volunteer with us:
1) Casual VolunteersTo sign up to the casual volunteer pool please send in a copy of your CV and a completed copy of the volunteer application from (down-loadable from the bottom of this page). We will add you to the list and let you know about opportunities including helping with events and with exhibition installation and de-rigg. This may also include occasional cover for volunteer gallery assistants. Also let us know if you are happy for us to share your details for the volunteer pool. We normally send out e-mails with opportunities for casual volunteers once or twice per month.
2) Volunteer Gallery AssistantWorking alongside our Gallery Assistant, 1 day per week for the period of a single exhibition (approximately 3 months). You will need to be able to commit to 1x 5.5hr shift for this period. You will gain front of house experience, help the public interpret our exhibitions, collect feedback, plus assisting with some basic marketing and administration. A role description can be downloaded from the bottom of this page.
To Apply: If you are already on our casual volunteer list then please send an e-mail to
[email protected] outlining which day you would like to volunteer (in order of preference). If you have not volunteered with us before, please send a cover letter detailing why you are interested in this opportunity and any relevant previous experience, plus a copy of your CV.
This volunteer role may be subject to interview, depending on the number of applications we receive.
3) Project volunteersFlexible opportunities to gain experience in areas such as marketing, education or events management.
We’re interested in hearing from volunteers who may want to gain experience in specific areas or improve your skills in one particular area.
Hours and responsibilities are flexible, to be agreed with us on a case by case basis. Application is via covering letter expressing your interest, outlining the experience desired, your previous experience and the support that would be required from PSL. Suitable applicants would then be invited for a meeting to discuss opportunities.
To Apply *
Please fill in the application below specifying your availability and what type of volunteering you are interested in along with an up-to-date CV highlighting your specific experience relating to contemporary art, relevant qualification and references.
*As we are often over-subscribed with applications please appreciate that processing applications and finding opportunities for new volunteers may take a little while!ContactsZoë Sawyer - Programme Manager

Trainee Artist-EducatorsWe are currently developing a flexible team of 'trainee
artist-educators' for artists, students or recent graduates who want to gain more sustained experience
in developing and delivering learning or participation projects. This opportunity is aimed
at students or recent graduates who are interested in using their skills
and artistic practice in delivering workshops or participatory
projects, but don't have enough experience to get paid work. It is a form of unpaid training so not suitable for more experienced practitioners. We can cover travel and other expenses as agreed and there may be opportunity to be paid a small stipend when trainees feel able to take a lead on developing and delivering activity.
Please
download the 'trainee artist-educator' brief at the bottom of this page
for more information on how to get involved. The next
deadline for applications is
Friday 9th November 2012. However, this is a flexible team and there will be regular opportunity to apply in the future.
