Who we are

Kerry Harker is Co-Founder and Co-Director of PSL. She has lived in Leeds since completing a BA and MA at the University. As an artist she has shown in New Contemporaries in 2004 (Camden Arts Centre, London), Collect in 2005 (V&A Museum, London) and Gathered World in 2010 (Aberystwyth Arts Centre). From 2004-6 she was a Director of the curatorial project Vitrine which she co-founded with Pippa Hale, staging temporary exhibitions of contemporary art, much of it commissioned, around Leeds’ city centre. In 2006 she co-founded PSL with Pippa Hale and Diane Howse and has been a Director ever since. Kerry also sits on the Board of Trustees of the Art House in Wakefield, an organisation founded in 1994 to create equality of opportunities for disabled and non-disabled artists alike. www.the-arthouse.org.uk [email protected] --------------------

Pippa Hale is Co-Founder and Co-Director of PSL. She is also Director of the Northern Art Prize which launched in 2007 at Leeds Art Gallery. As an artist, she has exhibited in a range of group and solo projects in the UK, including 'Beyond The Dustheaps' at the Dickens Museum, London (2010) and commissions for Leeds City Council at Leeds International Pool (2008) and Southampton City Council for ‘North and South’ (2007). Zoë Sawyer Has worked at PSL since 2007, she currently works as full-time Curator. Since 2008 she has curated and co-curated projects, events and exhibitions at PSL including Morphic Resonance, The Drawing Shed, Soup and Cinema, Hunter Gatherer and Peering Sideways. She has an active independent curatorial practice and is co-founder and curator of theartmarket & kunstfreund gallery– a Leeds based artist-led curatorial project/ artspace/ art bookshop initiated in 2006. theartmarket&kunstfreund micro-bookshop has been resident at PSL since 2009. As an artist she has exhibited in solo and group shows in the UK and America. Kathryn Welford is Head of Participation at PSL. She has worked in gallery and creative education for almost twenty years, both as artist and project manager. She has a Masters in 'Education in Museums and Galleries' from the Institute of Education, London University and was Visual Arts Education Officer at Cornerhouse, Manchester International Arts Centre, until 2005. She has worked for Creative Partnerships, Arts Council of England's flagship creative learning programme, as Programme Manager and more recently as a freelance Creative Agent, brokering links and managing creative projects between schools and artistic partners. Kathryn is a qualified teacher for primary and early years education. As well as working for PSL, she works on a freelance basis, delivering and coordinating participation projects for various arts organisations across Yorkshire. [email protected] --------------------

Gary Williamson is Operations Manager at PSL. He recently stood down as CEO of the Leeds, York and North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce a post he’d held for 5 years after stepping up from Operations Director. Whilst Chambers are private businesses, they work closely with local partnerships and access public funding so Gary is aware of the needs of both a diverse range of stakeholders and the requirements associated with public funding. Gary also held a number of Non Executive Directorships including Leeds Ahead Ltd and The Leeds United Foundation, organisations that work in some of the regions most challenged areas to open minds and bring opportunities through education, skills and ambition. Jessica Williamson (no relation to Gary) is Development Manager at PSL. She is a recent transplant from New York City where she was involved in the not-for-profit sector for more than seven years. She worked in fundraising and communications for a variety of causes, including contemporary arts, social justice, and service provision for low-income families in the historic Lower East Side. Jessica received her BA from the University of Wisconsin and MA from the University of Westminster in London. Holly Gilpin is currently on work placement at PSL. Holly is assisting the Development Manager with PR and marketing projects in preparation for the opening of The Tetley in Autumn. Holly studied for her BA honours degree in the City and is studying for an MA in Art Gallery and Museum Studies at the University of Leeds. She has specialisms in local feminist history and the social and cultural history of Leeds. Holly also works at Leeds Art Gallery and is thrilled to be a part of PSL's new venture at The Tetley. --------------------

Rebecca Huggan is the Curatorial Intern at PSL. She studied Fine Art at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. Since graduating in 2011, she has lived and worked in Newcastle, continuing her art practice with a studio space at the Newbridge Project. She was the Programme Coordinator at Vane gallery for a year, and now works at BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art. She is also the co-founder and co-director of pop-up tea room Tea Owl, hosting evening tea parties that provide a platform for emerging artists and musicians. Bryony Purvis is PSL’s Participation Intern, working alongside Head of Participation, Kathryn Welford in the lead up to the opening of their new venue, The Tetley. Bryony has worked in creative education for more than three years, building partnerships with higher education providers, not-for-profit organisations and local communities. She has recently returned from Cape Town, where she was working as a documentary filmmaker, and studying for her MFA at the University of Cape Town. She continues to work as a freelance filmmaker from her home in the North East, and is delighted to be joining the PSL team in the lead up to the launch of The Tetley. [email protected]
