21st-24th July ‘Garden Shed’ by Pippa Hale
Hale will transform The Drawing Shed into the old garden shed at her parents’ home. Whereas the black shed has been stripped bare of features in order to create a smooth surface on which to draw, Garden Shed sees the restoration of the wood construction to its original function, complete with modifications and repairs made over the years and secret hiding place for the padlock key.
Pippa Hale is an artist working in Leeds. Her art practice is ideas-led and the end product is manufactured or created using specialist services. Outcomes range from large scale installations to small scale multiples which are always site-specific and consider political, social and economic frameworks.
These considerations are present not only in her practice, but also inform other areas of her artistic activity, for example as director of the Northern Art Prize and co-director of PSL [Project Space Leeds]. These projects provide exhibition opportunities for artists and raise the profile of visual arts activity in Leeds to local, regional and national audiences.
