Rachel Goodyear’s practice presents a mass of ambiguous truths and the blatantly invented, offering blurred boundaries between curiosity and torment and the blessed and the cursed. She makes drawings on whatever paper is to hand, with biro or pencil, often tinged with a melancholic and macabre sensibility. Animals, humans, trees and hybrids thereof exist in a fantastic world where the mundane and the spectacular are levelled out to exist on the same plane.
