Each of the Wildwood artists (Rebecca Birch, Emma Bolland, Laura Ford,
Rachel Goodyear, Diane Howse, Sophie Lascelles, Kelly McCallum and
Heather and Ivan Morison) has contributed a unique work to this
boxed-set, created specially for PSL and in relation to their work
featured in the Wildwood exhibition. The items are collected within a
black cloth-covered archival-quality portfolio box, beautifully
embossed in silver with the exhibition title to the front and spine.
This edition is strictly limited to 20 copies only.
Included is
a cast gold-plated maggot by Kelly McCallum, whose work as a visual
artist is informed by her training in the Goldsmithing department of
the Royal College of Art, London; a jeweller’s interest in scale and
attention to detail is apparent in her sculptural pieces. The maggots
canbe seen in ‘Wildwood’ emerging from the ears of a Victorian
taxidermy fox in the piece ‘Do You Hear what I Hear?’, 2007.
Rebecca
Birch presents an extended DVD conversation with 'George’, an extract
from which features in the artist’s ‘Bristlecone’ film, housed within a
wooden shack at PSL. The conversations with inhabitants of Big Pine,
California (the nearest town to where the oldest living things on the
planet, the Bristlecone pines, are) take in the politics of land
ownership in the American West, suicide in the National Parks, and the
habits of chipmunks.
And Rachel Goodyear has created a new
drawing for PSL on the back of a found ticket; a double-sided
reproduction of this is included in the boxed set. The drawing, of
sleeping wolves, originates in the wording on the found ticket, a
spelling list of nouns which bizarrely begins ‘wolves, there, kill,
beer, people…’
Contributions from the other artists include a
child’s model stag casting an other-worldly shadow by Diane Howse; a
PVC cut-out replica of one of the scenes from Emma Bolland’s ‘Hansel
and Gretel’ installation, a printed card from the ongoing series by
Heather and Ivan Morison; and printed cards which overlap to reveal a
new image by Sophie Lascelles.
