Bronwen Buckeridge, Laura Buckley, Laura Morrison and Amy Stephens
20 November 2009 - 27 February 2010 Private view 19 November, 6-8pm Christmas party 17 December, 5-9pm
PSL worked with artist Amy Stephens at the start of 2009 in 195 Miles, a collaborative project with London’s Whitechapel Gallery. Stephens returns with three other London-based artists in Meet Pamela, which comes directly to Leeds from the John Jones Project Space in London. The show’s title is a reference to François Truffaut’s 1973 film La Nuit Americaine, which explores the techniques and processes of film making itself.
Stephens’ large yet delicately balanced sculptural assemblages consider shifting patterns of meaning and potential for narrative while Bronwen Buckeridge’s uses the spoken word, sound effects and video to explore the processes of production as alternative sites for performance. Laura Buckley creates multi-screen installations using film as a sculptural medium and Laura Morrison’s work acts as a contemporary art confessional, reflecting on the resemblance of art making to the exercise of belief.
These artists define their project as ‘a space for reflection on the possibilities of art production within the dialogue of an individual practice, or in response to external systems and processes.’
